If a question here doesn't match what the app does, please email us so we can fix it.

Getting started

Matrix Golf is an iPhone app, iOS 17 and up. Apple Watch is supported as a companion (it’s the watchOS app called Caddiewatch in earlier builds).

The app isn’t on the App Store yet. We’ll post the link here when it is. If you’re on the TestFlight invite list you already have it.

Account

Sign in / sign up. Sign in with Apple is one tap. Email + password works too: we send a six-digit confirmation code to verify the address. There’s no magic link, no deep link from email; the code is the only thing you ever type.

Reset your password. Settings → Account → Reset password. We email you a six-digit code; type it into the app. The code is single-use and short-lived.

Change your email. Settings → Account → Change email. We send a confirmation code to the new address before the change takes effect.

Delete your account. Settings → Account → Delete account. Your avatar and photos are gone within seconds; the database row deletion cascades behind that. There is no undo. See Privacy for the full mechanics.

Rounds

Start a round. Tap Start round on the home tab. Pick a course, pick a tee, set the format if you’re playing more than solo, hit Start.

Score per hole. Score lives on the main round screen. Each hole shows par + your strokes + putts; tap to set a number. The next hole advances when GPS tells us you’re on it (or you can tap forward manually).

Finish a round. Tap Finish. The summary screen shows the totals, the Strokes Gained breakdown, and any photos. The round is saved.

Edit after the fact. Open the round from the Rounds tab. Strokes and putts are tappable. Edits are persisted.

Delete a round. Round detail → top-right menu → Delete. Confirms once.

Round privacy. Three settings: just you, followers only, public. Default is public for new accounts so the discovery surface has something to show; you can change the per-round setting at finish, or change your default in Settings → Privacy. Glanceable indicator on every row in the Rounds tab.

Scorecard import

When you didn’t track live, snap the paper card.

  1. Home → Add round from scorecard.
  2. Pick the date (last 30 days).
  3. Pick the course (mandatory, since we need the par and stroke index to validate).
  4. Pick the tee.
  5. Take or pick a photo.
  6. Tap Upload. The confirmation screen says “We’ll let you know when it’s ready (usually under a minute).”

A minute or so later you get a push: “Your Valderrama scorecard is ready to review.” Tap → review screen with the 18-cell grid prefilled; low-confidence cells highlighted. Tap to correct any cell; save. The result is a real round, identical downstream to a live-tracked one.

If the model couldn’t read the photo, you get a different push: “We couldn’t read your scorecard from Valderrama. Tap to retry or enter manually.”

Games + groups

Every round is a game. Solo is a one-player game; you can add friends, add guests by email, split into groups, and pick a format (medal, Stableford classic or modified, skins classic or birdie, match play).

Create a game. Round-start surface → add players → set the format → start. Each participant has their own scorecard; the host or anyone in the same group can record scores for the group.

Invite players. Profile-tab top-right or in-game Add player → share via QR code (in person) or link (via Messages). Universal links open the app; if the friend doesn’t have the app, the link renders a fallback “Get Matrix Golf” page that asks them to install and re-scan your QR.

Share the leaderboard. Multiplayer games can produce a live leaderboard URL (game settings → Share leaderboard). Anyone with the link sees the live state, auto-refreshing every 30 seconds. The page lives in the browser; no app required for the viewer.

Game-scoped chat. Photos and short notes attach to the game. Photos appear inline per-hole on every participant’s strip via realtime. There is no standalone Messages inbox; chat exists only within a game.

Cloud sync

When you sign in, your dossier, rounds, launch-monitor history, bag config, and handicap snapshot stay in sync across devices. Sync runs at app start, when the app returns to the foreground, after you finish or edit a round, and on demand via Settings → Sync Now. Edits on different devices reconcile per hole; the most recent write wins.

What if you sign out and back in? Local stores are wiped at sign-out (per-user UserDefaults keys are cleared in one place). Signing back in pulls everything down again.

Watch

The Watch is a companion. Rounds always start on the phone (it’s where the format and players live).

No active round on the wrist → gate screen: “Start a round on your phone.” On Watch start with an active round, you get satellite hole map, distances, club picker, scoring, hill-shaded green.

Notifications not arriving on the wrist. Make sure Settings → Notifications has the round ready channel on. The Watch wake fires when the phone’s player-setup screen commits.

Watch ran out of battery mid-round. Score on the phone instead; the round is synced. The Watch picks up when it wakes back up.

Notifications

Per-channel controls live two places:

  • In the app, Settings → Notifications.
  • On the web, every email we send carries a footer link to matrixgolf.app/np/{your-token} with the same toggles, no login required.

Channels you can turn off: new followers, likes, comments, scorecard ready, game joins, product updates, promotions. Account-security and per-round summary emails stay on.

Launch monitor import

Settings → Import External Data → Launch Monitor Data.

  1. Pick units (yards / metres for distance, yards / feet / metres for side).
  2. Import a CSV with columns Club, Type, Target, Total, Side.

We don’t promise compatibility with a specific brand. We accept the CSV. If your launch monitor exports something close to that shape, it’ll work. SkyTrak, Trackman, and Garmin R10 exports have been tested informally.

There’s also a Load Sample Data button that seeds ~130 Box-Muller-sampled shots across a 13-club bag. Useful for trying the app without your own data.

Pricing & subscription

Two tiers:

  • Annual. €49.99/year. 7-day free trial.
  • Lifetime. €99.99. One-time. No renewals. No anniversary surprises.

Both include the same features. We added the lifetime tier as a positioning statement: we don’t need to lock you in.

Restore purchases. Settings → Subscription → Restore. Pulls your purchase history from the App Store.

Manage in App Store. Annual subscriptions are managed by Apple. iPhone → Settings (the system one) → your name → Subscriptions → Matrix Golf.

Privacy & data

The short version: we don’t sell your data, don’t run ads, don’t load third-party tracking pixels on the website. Full mechanics on the Privacy page.
